Frances Posthumus

1928 - 2025

Mrs. Frances Alma Posthumus (Horne), age 97, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in Modesto, California. A lifelong Californian, Frances was born on July 13, 1928, in Oakland CA. She married Wilbur Poshtumus in March 1949 and lived a life marked by dedication to education, community service, travel and joyful pursuits.

Frances earned her associate's degree at Modesto Junior College, in 1948. She continued her studies at San Francisco State University, earning a bachelor's degree. In 1956, she began teaching kindergarten in Ceres, where she taught until her retirement in 1984.

After retirement Frances remained active in the Modesto community as a docent at the historic McHenry Mansion. Eventually, she took on the role of manager of the mansion's gift shop -- a position she held with pride and joy until her final days.

Frances was president of Job's Daughters in her youth and is a sorority sister of Beta Sigma Phi. She is a member of Kettledrum antique group. Travel was a great passion; she embarked on many adventures around the world with friends.

Frances is survived by her devoted daughter Debbi and son-in-law Danny Davis; granddaughters Laura Scaparro and Danielle Davis; and great-granddaughters Izabella Scaparro and Chloe Davis. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews Sandra Tanaguchi, Jennie Marsden, Kathy Purple, Michael Marsden, and Paul Marsden.

Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband Will Posthumus, her siblings Robert Horne, Irene Houston, and Vesta Marsden, and her parents Alma Steinmeyer and Hope Horne.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Funeral Service will be held on November 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel 419 Scenic Drive. Internment to follow at Acacia Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers remembrances in her name may be made to the McHenry Mansion Foundation.
