Modesto, California - Gary R. Potter, 80, of Modesto, CA, passed away on November 19, 2023. He was born in Oakland, CA in 1943 to Gilbert and Flora Potter.
He joined the California Army National Guard in 1964 and served for 29 years. Gary served as a medic and a recruiter for the local area. He retired in 2003 with a rank of Sgt. First Class.
Gary is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley, and their four children, Carlene Lagorio (Victor), Greg Potter (Cheryl), Doug Potter (Leticia), and Elizabeth Leal (Jeff). He was a proud Papa to Amy, Katie, Vincent, Christopher, Michael, Emily, Matt, Elena, and Sofia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Potter, and his grandson Jack Potter.
A service honoring the life of Gary will be held on November 29, 2023 at 11:00am at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA.

You were such a huge part of my life. I don´t remember you not being there. Thank you for being the person ( uncle although we weren´t related by blood but heart ) who was there for our family for all our lives. I know you´re in heaven with my dad knowing who knows what but you are together again:). And you´re both healthy and having fun once again together. There´s no doubt in my mind my dad was waiting at heavens gate for you to get there.
