Jack Gizdich Obituary

Jack W. Gizdich, 99, of Angels Camp, CA passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025.

He was born on April 2, 1926 in Watsonville, CA to Jerome and Anna Gizdich. After graduating from high school in Oakland, CA, Jack-just 17 years old and needing his father's signed permission-proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in Guam during World War II. Upon honorable discharge he returned to Oakland and met Hazel Bray. Jack and Hazel were married in 1948 and eventually settled in Modesto. He then started a long career as a traveling Salesman for Skaggs Stone. His dedication and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues, clients and lifelong friends. Together with Hazel, he also owned and operated Leesa's Fabrics in Manteca, CA for 20 successful years.

Jack and Hazel's love for travel took them to over 25 countries and on many cruises. They truly were world travelers.

Jack and Hazel were married for 71 years before Hazel's passing. They lived in Modesto, CA for 50+ years and made life-long friends with neighbors and their community. They raised three children and were blessed with 5 granddaughters, 8 great-grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren.

Jack's kindness and steady presence touched everyone who knew him. His legacy of generosity and gentlemanly spirit lives on in the hearts of those he loved. Truly, to know Jack was to love him.

He is survived by his children, Larry (Kathleen) Gizdich, Lisa (Rick) Deputy, son-in-law Frank Van Artsdalen and all his grands and greats. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel and daughter Linda.

A celebration of Jack's life is being planned for a future time. A private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy or the Wounded Warriors Project.
