Jack Goodwin Sr.

1938 - 2024

Jack Edwin Goodwin, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, at the age of 86. Jack was born in Modesto, CA to Edwin and Emilie Goodwin. Jack had two sisters and a twin brother Wally.

Jack grew up in Modesto where he also went on to meet his future wife of 65 years, Gloria. Jack and Gloria met at Modesto High School but did not start dating until they were both attending Modesto Junior College. They married after a year of dating and started their life together in San Jose, where their son Jack JR was born. Shortly after, they returned to Modesto where they welcomed their daughter Sheri and settled down all the way until retirement. After retirement, Jack designed and built a lovely home in Valley Springs, CA where he and Gloria have resided since.

Jack loved his family, home, pick up, dogs, and sports. His love for football was present throughout his life with him earning a four-year scholarship at Oregon State University as a young man and with him closely following the sport for the rest of his life. His love for baseball and the New York Yankees could be seen by his collection of numerous baseball related collectables and hats. Gardening was another love of his and was an interest present throughout his life. At his home in Valley Springs, he was known for keeping a large garden of fruits and vegetables, but most notable large red onions. Jack loved camping and traveling in his motor-home in which he visited a great deal of the United States. One of his favorite destinations for many years was Big Fork, Montana.

During his working years, Jack held numerous positions at a wide variety of companies, but he is undoubtedly most well-known for his self-employment as a Real Estate Broker and General Contractor. Jack loved these two jobs more than any other and worked them for 37 years. Wherever Jack went, whether it be in a professional, educational, or personal setting, he was known for achieving high marks and earning awards for various accolades. From being Student Body President of Modesto High in 1956, earning his football scholarship to Oregon State, being President of the Board of Realtors in 1976, being President of Modesto Home Builders in 1977, and a variety of other awards.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Delcie and Evelyn. He is survived by his wife Gloria, his twin brother Wally, his children Jack JR (Trina) and Sheri Fox (Rich), his grandchildren Andrew Fox and Alex Fox, his sisters-in-law Barbara and Gail, his brother-in-law Jack, and nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.

Jack will be remembered as a wonderful husband, the best father and grandfather, and a great friend. He was kind, generous, funny, and someone you could always count on or put a smile on your face. He will be greatly missed.
