Juanita Kathleen (Durham) Boyson passed away on September 17, 2012 at Meadow View Manor Residential Care Home, Sonora, California. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Elmer Jack Boyson; her sister, Maxine Callahan; her brothers, James Durham and Robert Durham; and a granddaughter, Jessica Guinasso.
Juanita is survived by her companion of ten years, Amos Skadsheim of Columbia, CA; sister, Elgeva Burton of Oakdale, CA; brother, Gerald Durham of Copperopolis, CA; son, Jack Boyson and wife Kathy of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Carolyn Singleton and husband Steve of Modesto, CA; daughter, Susan Guinasso and husband Remo of Sonora, CA; son, Michael Boyson and wife Shelley of Denver, CO; grandchildren Tina Boyson, Marc Boyson, Nicole Gearing, Julianne Guinasso, Trevor Boyson, and Madeleine Boyson; great grandchildren Maxmillian Boyson, Finian Boyson, Orlagh Boyson, James Gearing, Thomas Gearing, and Matthew Gearing; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Juanita was born to Luther Anderson Durham and Ruby Jane Brizendine on June 25, 1922 in the town of Fountain Head, Sumner County, Tennessee. In 1943 she moved to Modesto, California, where she met and married Elmer Jack Boyson - a survivor of the Pearl Harbor bombing - while he was stationed in the Army at Hammond General Hospital in Modesto.
Juanita lived in Modesto for 68 years from 1943 until 2011. She and her husband Jack were owner-administrators of Boyson Convalescent Hospitals #1 and #2, and Yosemite Convalescent Hospital.
She was involved with her husband for a time in the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) and was very active in the Modesto Parkwood Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving over the years as Sabbath School Superintendent, Pathfinder Leader, and Community Services (Dorcas) Leader. Juanita lived the last year and half of her life in Sonora, California.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, September 28 at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, 419 Scenic Blvd., Modesto. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 29 at 3:00 PM at the Modesto Parkwood Seventh-day Adventist Church, 301 Claratina Avenue, Modesto.
