Patterson, California - Peter Paul La Torre, Jr. MD of Patterson, California passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2025. He was born in Oakland, California on October 7, 1940 to Peter and Violet La Torre, Sr.
Peter is preceded in death by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Victoria; daughter, Kathy Garcia (Jesse); son, Tommy La Torre; daughters, Barb Haile (Roy) and Jennyfer Alamo (Rob). His grandchildren, Jordan Garcia-Mondics (Jonathan & Great granddaughter, Ellison), Rianna Garcia-Mitchell (McKenzie, Great granddaughter, Rian & Great grandson, River), Forrest Haile (Great granddaughter, Naveyah), Denise Cerutti (Ethan), Spencer Alamo (Crystal & Great grandson, Brooks), Camille Beach (Jacob), Garrett Haile (Leilani & Great grandson, Lukas), and Nicholas Alamo. His brother, Mike La Torre (JoAnne); his sisters, Luceen Dunn, Frances La Torre and Lorraine Brescia.
Peter went to school at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland and graduated in 1958. He then attended Berkeley University for his premed and Marquette School of Medicine in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating in 1967 (now known as Medical College of Wisconsin). He did his internship at Fresno County General Hospital. Then, instead of waiting to be drafted, he enlisted in the US Air Force for two years. Peter was stationed in Hawaii at Hickam Air Force Base and Wheeler Air Force Base and finished his enlistment in 1970. He finished his residency in family practice at Ventura County General Hospital in June 1972. Peter started his family practice in Patterson and served the community for 35 years. He was the Medical Director at San Luis Convalescent Hospital in Newman for a period of time, had privileges at Del Puerto Hospital and served as Chief of Staff for the Hospital at times. He was involved in many clubs and organizations including Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Patterson City Council, Measure L oversight committee, Stanislaus County Medical Society and American Legion. He was instrumental in helping to establish the PRIDE Scholarship and many other fundraising activities for the community.
A Rosary will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on September 11th at 6 PM and the Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, September 12th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Burial with military honors will follow at Patterson cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PRIDE (Patterson Recognizing Individuals Determined to Excel), Patterson Lions Club, Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland California, Knights of Columbus Father Rose Council of Patterson, Father Connors Endowment Fund or a
charity of your choice.
