Laureen Wagner Obituary

Laureen Hagan Wagner passed away peacefully at her home on December 14, 2025 with her husband of nearly 28 years, Charles Wagner, at her side. Born in La Jolla, California on June 24, 1969, she was the third of four children born to Lee and Carol Hagan.

Laureen grew up in Modesto, California, attending Our Lady of Fatima and graduating from Central Catholic High School. While in high school, Laureen enjoyed cheerleading and dance. She also developed a talent for writing poetry, a gift she shared with her late grandmother, Bambi.

Laureen continued her education at Modesto Junior College then transferred to California State University, Sacramento, graduating in December, 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-physical therapy.

Laureen worked as a physical therapy aide in Manhattan Beach, California and Fremont California. She later worked at Modesto's Sutter Gould Medical Foundation as a receptionist and in records.

Through a mutual friend, Laureen met the love of her life and future husband, Charles, at a local dance club in Modesto. Married in March, 1998, they purchased their first home together in Modesto and moved in during the summer of 1999.

Diagnosed with brain cancer in 1999, Laureen faced the devastating news head on, with the utmost courage and determination to survive. Laureen became active with Modesto's Relay for Life, joining the Sutter Gould's team. Laureen was honored with the Patient Courage Award in 2006.

Despite several setbacks throughout the years, Laureen continued to fight, never giving up, always believing in God, and showing everyone, what true courage is. She stayed upbeat, laughed often, and continued to flash that infectious smile. She was a true inspiration to everyone, especially her husband.

Laureen truly enjoyed her time with friends and family. She loved her trips to La Jolla to spend time with her relatives, especially when the family gathered at "7311". She enjoyed her time growing up in Modesto going to concerts, attending high school parties with her protective oldest brother, Michael, and cruising McHenry Avenue with her friends.

Laureen is predeceased by her father, Lee, and her oldest brother, Michael. She is survived by her husband Charles, mother Carol, brothers Patrick and Christopher (Kristin) and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances of Laureen may be made to UCSF Brain Tumor Research Center.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson on January 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Carol's home. A private Rite of Committal and burial will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.

Laureen,

I will never forget when Charles first met you at that dance club. He could not stop smiling or talking about you when him and I worked together at MCS. I will always remember when he first introduced you to me thinking how lucky this man was to have such an amazing woman by his side.
May you rest in peace old friend. You are at home with your lord and savior.

Laureen,
Today you arrived at your final resting place. I am forever grateful having you in my life. Thank you for saying "yes" when I asked you to dance 35 1/2 years ago and thank you for saying "yes" when I asked you to marry me almost 28 years ago. I love you and I always will. You will always be in my heart. I will always miss you. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace my beautiful wife.
I love you bunches and bunches, forever and ever, always and all ways.

Laureen was the best college roommate and friend I could have ever asked for. We had so much fun even during times of struggle. When life after college took us in different directions, reconnecting always felt as if no time had passed. She had such a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile. I will miss you tremendously, my sister-from-another-mister.

My precious Laureen is no longer suffering and is now with our Lord. I truly believe that she was welcomed home with open arms by her Dad (Lee), brother (Michael), cousin (Eric) and her grandparents.
You will never be forgotten as we will always hold you in our hearts. May you rest in peace sweet daughter.
I love you,
Mom
