Joyce Volonte passed away peacefully at her home on January 28 at the age of 72.
Joyce was born and lived most of her life in Modesto. Her parents, George and Emily Cardoza were both from large Portuguese families. She grew up surrounded by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 28 years, Richard Volonte. Daughters, Tiffany Fontana (Vincent) and Tracy Walker; step-children Kari Housewright (Tony) and Luke Volonte (Shelby); 9 grandchildren; sisters Deborah Cardoza, Sandra Anderson (Bruce); brother, Michael Cardoza (Sherri); aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School and Central Catholic High School in Modesto.
She worked at Bank of the West at the Modesto Branch and Hughson Branch for 37 years, retiring in 2012. She was dedicated to the bank and to her customers.
Joyce loved life. She was a loving, beautiful woman with a heart of gold. Among her many passions were family and friends, the Catholic faith and animals, especially horses. She was always the life of the party, loved to dance to rock & roll music. She was a devout Catholic all her life, involved in both St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, attended weekly adoration chapel, was a member of the Pro-Life Women's Group and participated in the Walk for Life event every year.
She was the happiest on a horse no matter where. She especially enjoyed trips to Milton with her uncle Johnny and cousin MaryAnn to work cattle and trips to Hat Creek cabin with her husband to feed the deer.
Thank you to the Seva Hospice staff, caregivers and volunteers, family, friends, and all those who supported Joyce and Richard with their love and encouragement.
