I am saddened to learn of Manny's passing. He was a good friend to my dad, Sam Roberts. Some 18 years ago or so, Dad entered into a physical therapy/exercise class after heart surgery where he met Manny.
The exercise class would meet for a monthly lunch and when Dad was unable to drive anymore due to advancing Alzheimer's, Manny would come to my parent's home and pick him up. He was so incredibly kind to my Dad, patiently listening to the same stories for the hundredth time!
In April 2012, Manny visited Dad during his final days in Alexander Cohen Hospice House and honored us by being a pall bearer at Dad's funeral.
A kind and gentle man, Manny always put others before himself. He was a true example of how Christ wants all of us to be.
Dad always spoke highly of Manny. I so appreciate his kindness. I'm sure my dad was there to greet him the moment he entered heaven.
The world has lost a wonderful man. He will be missed.
Blessings and love to each of you,
Laura Overton

To Manuel's dear family, I want to thank you for sharing Manny with us over the lst 20 plus years, faithfully every Wednesday night. He was a fine talented musician and a good friend. I loved Manny for his quiet gentle spirit and how he always encouraged others. I could always put an inexperienced young person next to him to care and nuture and the students would always feel good about a stressful situation. I watched Manny struggle over this last year but did not know what it was. He was a very private man. Many times we played out and Manny and I would be the only sax players, but he would just say we are good we can do this and we did. He will be so missed and forever hold a place in my heart. I learned compassion from him, love and encouragement. Jim Ingrams Big Band.
