Chevy Chase, Maryland - Michael Fraioli passed peacefully on May 27, 2023, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Mike was the devoted husband to and is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol Eickert and beloved father to daughter Michelle (Phillip Revie) of Boston, MA, son Matthew (Blakelee Gould) of Silver Spring, MD, and brother Tom (Vikki) of Modesto, CA. He is also survived by his loving nephews and nieces: Greg Fraioli, Jamie Fraioli, Tommy Fraioli, Jennifer Fraioli-Burns, Alec Eickert, and Brandon Eickert. He was preceded in death by brother Robert and parents Pasquale & Livia Fraioli all of Modesto. Mike was born in Modesto, and was a long-time resident of Chevy Chase, MD. Mike had a larger-than-life personality. He loved cooking family dishes and trying new recipes and was well known for his cioppino and grilling. He enjoyed exploring local venues, hunting, spending time with his family and keeping up with friends. Mike is also survived by a “caucus” of long-time friends, including many who have remained close over decades of working and playing together. He was a trusted and beloved friend. His gentle, offbeat sense of humor, his laughter, and his good counsel are already missed. Mike was proud to be the son of Italian immigrants, one a master carpenter, the other an accomplished seamstress and teacher; he lived the American Dream. After working in his hometown of Modesto on the successful campaign electing Tony Coelho to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1978, Mike moved to Washington, D.C. to serve on the staff of the new Congressman for two years before moving to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Mike served on the senior staff of the DCCC for six years. In 1987 Mike founded the campaign consulting firm Fraioli & Associates, and was the strategist for numerous campaigns and organizations from the local to national levels, advising some of the highest-level Democrats in Congress, including House Speaker Tom Foley, Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John Dingell, Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey, and Coelho, who went on to become the House Majority Whip. Mike also helped and worked for many other Democratic Members of Congress and candidates, more recently, Representatives Brad Sherman, Tim Ryan, Raul Grijalva, Carolyn Maloney. He rejoiced when they won and grieved when they lost. Mike was an advocate for a wide variety of labor groups and organizations including IAMAW, IBEW, AFL-CIO, and REALTORS, among many more. Mike’s passions encompassed the local-level in state representative and county council elections and ballot initiatives.
