Orville Atnip Obituary

July 18, 2016
Orville Austin Atnip (often referred to as "Austin", "Papa" or "Bud") peacefully entered into rest at his home with family by his side at the age of 77. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Linnie Atnip and his sister, Shirley Gannon.
His family moved to Waterford, CA in the 1950s. Austin graduated from Oakdale High School and enjoyed a 32-year career as an Industrial Engineer at Campbell Soup Company. During this time he met and married his wife of 48 years, Patricia. He is survived by Patricia, his loving children, Doyle (Laurie) Atnip, Kim (Mike) Collins, and Kelli (Mark) Kennedy, his eight grandchildren, Cody, Justin, Nick, Trevor, Sean, Riley, Chloe, and Grace, two great-grandchildren Marshall and Melody, and his brother, Darrell (Mona) Atnip.
Austin earned his commercial pilot license and thoroughly enjoyed piloting family and friends. He began a second career as a Correctional Peace Officer at Chuckawalla Valley State Prison and retired in 2006.
Following retirement Papa became an avid reader and a loyal Giant's fan. He enjoyed telling jokes and sharing stories, meals at his children's homes, dining out, donuts, and desserts of all kinds. He made the best pies in town and he loved to share them. He texted everyday to keep in touch with his grandchildren, who were his greatest joy (followed by his IPhone).
At his request, no services will be held. Papa will be missed everyday and loved forever.
