Ralph Moriconi Obituary

Ralph John Moriconi
February 16, 1933 - May 13, 2023
Modesto, California - It is with a sense of loss and a fond farewell that the family and friends of Ralph John "RJ" Moriconi announce his passing.
R.J. was born to Ralph and Teresa Moriconi in Yerington, Nevada but lived most of his life in Modesto, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lita Brown. He is survived by his husband Anthony "Tony" Alonzo, his sister Lora Rapini, his stepsons Michael (Mary Jo) and Brandon (Angel), his three grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many treasured friends.
Education and service to his community were of highest importance to him. He graduated from Stanford University with an M.A. in Education and received a Doctorate in Curriculum Instruction and Supervision from the University of Florida. Upon returning to Modesto, he held various positions in the Modesto City Schools. He retired from his long and final career as Professor at California State University, Stanislaus, Division of Education.
There was no corner or crevice in his city that was unknown to R.J. His devotion to the community, his service to an incredible number of organizations as Board Member, officer, and supporter and his financial contributions to causes close to his heart will leave a lasting legacy to this community. His greatest focus was to promote The Arts in Modesto, and he was instrumental in many local organizations, among them, The Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Central West Ballet, Townsend Opera Company, The Prospect and State Theaters, Mistlin Gallery, the downtown Art Walk, The Pride Center, and so many others too numerous to name.
R.J. was also a world traveler. He was a conversationalist. He knew or was known by "someone" anywhere he went in town. He loved to cook and was a consummate host. He loved to try new restaurants and develop recipes of his own. He had the knack of making simple foods feel "fancy".
Tony and R.J.'s family would like to give special thanks to his medical team at Sutter Gould, his team at Community Hospice, and to all the loyal friends who supported and cheered him on the final months of his long and rich life. Anyone wishing to honor him with a donation may do so to an organization of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Modesto on June 24, Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. He will rest in Yerington, Nevada.

I was a student of Dr. Mariconi at CSUS. He was always interested in what students were dealing with in their classrooms and schools. He was one of the best. Thanks Dr. Mariconi for your guidance in development of my career.

Got my teaching credential under his tutelage at Stan State. Best teacher in education department by far. Then celebrated graduation with great dinner party he hosted for us. Though I quit teaching after a few years I spoke of him often.
