Modesto, California - Ray was born to Raymond L. and Virginia Freer in Riverhead, N.Y. He traveled the country with his family due to his father's military service in the USAF. At the age of 13 his family settled in Caldwell, ID. He later moved to California to pursue his career in construction development. His early upbringing helped shape his work ethic and views of duty to both family and friends. His motto was," Always leave it better than how you found it" This was applied into every aspect of his life. His generosity was boundless, and his joy in this was seeing someone make their dreams and interests come true. His wealth of knowledge in a wide array of subjects made him a sought-after resource for his friends and family and it gave him great pleasure to be able to help lend his expertise. Ray had a very kind heart and found extreme pleasure in helping his family and friends whenever they were in need. Ray's interests were rock-crawling in his jeep, fishing and going to the sand dunes in his X3 side-by-side. He also enjoyed working on his vehicles and modifying them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Virginia Freer and brothers David and James Freer. He is survived by his loving wife Diana DiMenco-Freer, sisters Ann Greene and Deborah Wanous. Son William Freer(Peggy). Also his loving children who he called his own. Melinda (Sean) Ballenger, AJ Smith (Carrieann) , Lisa Zwart (Jason) , David Terra and 10 grandchildren.
A Funeral will be held on September 7th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 1813 Oakdale Road Modesto. A rosary will be held at 9:30 and funeral mass at 10am. Reception to follow at the church hall.
