Robbie Cummins Obituary
March 31, 1937 - June 17, 2021
MODESTO, California - Robbie Jeanette Cummins, age 84, of Modesto, California, died Thursday at Bethel Retirement Community in Modesto. She was born on March 31, 1937, in Boyle, Mississippi. She is the daughter of the late Odie Williams and the late Annie Vowell Williams of Arkansas. She is the sister of the late Betty Lizette Williams of Lake Village, Arkansas. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dennis Cummins just 5 months ago.
Robbie spent most of her youth in Mississippi and Arkansas. She graduated from the University of Arkansas – one of only a few women to do so at the time – and was a life-long fan of Arkansas Football (Go Razorbacks!). She went on to pursue her passion for education as a teacher. She taught English for many years and ultimately retired from Mark Twain Junior High School in Modesto.
In 1984, Robbie married Dennis Cummins. Robbie and Dennis built a house together in Modesto where they loved visiting with their grandchildren.
Robbie was a devout Christian and a very active volunteer at Centenary Methodist Church in Modesto. Robbie loved to read and always had a book on her lap. She pursued this passion in the church and held regular reading sessions for blind people for many years.
Robbie will always be remembered for her incredibly sharp wit and her unwavering faith in God.
Robbie is survived by Dennis' Sons, Michael (Tamie) Cummins and Ronald (Debbie) Cummins. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Robbie lived at Bethel Retirement Community this past year. Her family expresses much gratitude to Bethel for their wonderful care for her, as well as Community Hospice for their care and support.
A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on Thursday, June 24, at 11:00 AM.
