Thomas Truax Obituary

Thomas Craig Truax
June 20, 1958 - January 14, 2014
On January 14, 2014, at age 55, Thomas stood before the Lord and was deemed "a good and faithful servant."  He went "home" after a year-long courageous battle with cancer.  He is joined in Heaven by his father, Combs Craig Truax, mother Ellamae Jean Truax, and beloved brother, Edward Combs Truax.
He is survived by his wife Tamara Ann Truax, sons Terrance Craig Truax and wife Christa of Hughson, and Timothy Frank Truax of Turlock; sisters Debra Truax Flannery and husband Patrick, Mary Victoria Truax and husband Don both of Florida, brother, David Ernest Truax and wife Carol of Turlock; nephews Craig James Flannery  and Sean Patrick Flannery of Florida and Mathew Craig Truax of Turlock and Nicholas Edward Truax of West Point; also his beloved Father and mother-in-law, Frank and Corky Fuentes of Pleasanton.
Tom was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and was a distinguished 8 year veteran of the United States Air Force.  Among his 26 ribbons and medals he was awarded the Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal under President Reagan.  After his two tours with the military, he became a local businessman, chaired the area's American Heart Association and most recently the Stanislaus County Veterans Commission.  He found his calling in the health care industry, serving in several capacities by helping those who could not help themselves.
Tom adored his family, ranch and golfing with his buddies.  He was dedicated in every facet of his life to kindness, fairness and living by his grandfather's favorite verse, "As you have done to the least of these, my brethren, you have done unto me." Tom was loved and will sorely missed by many.
Tom's life will be honored on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Turlock. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Turlock Funeral Home. All are welcome to attened the interment, Monday, January 20, at the National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the name of Tom Truax to the Turlock Education Foundation School Farm Project.

Brother Tom, today was the worst yet. I grieve you so bad, my big brother and fantastic human being. I miss you smile, unswayable committment to kindness and most OD all your smile. You always made me be a better person just be being near you. The sunsets, the laughing around the fire pit, your intense love of your family. The hole in my heart is so big, I can barely breathe. Can't wait to see you in heavan, Tom

Miss you sooooooo bad. Till we meet again.

Tammy and family, you had a wonderful husband and father. May God give you His Peace and help. I met Tom when he was still in his 20's starting a business making computers and selling all over US. My husband, Virgil, rented to the 'Truax Boys'! They didn't have any prior rental credits, but Virgil was excited as they were full of Enterprise Spirit!
Fast Track! 5 years ago I phoned Millers Place to come in for an interview to have Virgil go to the Day Care for Alzheimer one or two times a week. When we arrived Tom was at the curb to meet us! He had heard we were coming. Tom was now CEO of several divisions of Doctors Hospital and he was there to welcome us. 'What Goes Around Comes Around'!

AVC joins our region in mourning the death of Tom Truax, a treasured friend with a huge servant heart for the community.

While others talked "collaboration" and "partnerships," Tom genuinely lived it out, with passion and humility.

We met many years ago as Non-profit agency CEO's. I came to appreciate and value his commitment to meet the most pressing needs of individuals within our community with creativity, innovation, compassion, and authenticity.

Tom was willing to "push the envelope," and dare to color outside the lines, if it meant a group of folks in dire need would find new hope and healing.

I found him to be inspiring and encouraging. We mourn the fact that he will no longer walk (or often in his case, run...) with us, but we also are confident that Heaven now hosts a man who is worthy of the Master's compliment in the Parable of the Talents, "Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master."
