Vincent Hummer Obituary

Vincent "Fritz" Hummer was born February 14, 1934 on the family farm near Williamsburg, Iowa. He was the youngest of 5 children. Fritz received his nickname from his grandfather at the age of three. His mother was the only one who called him Vince. He joined the US Army and in 1958 he was determined to be his own boss and start his own business. At the age of 23, with help from family, they built a hog buying station and developed the rest of the property into what became the home of "Hummer Trucking." After six years and a trip to California, Fritz and his wife Dorothy went back to Iowa, and sold everything just to relocate to California in October 1964 to start all over again. One year later, Hummer Trucking was back in business and continued to grow beyond all expectations.
He is survived by his son Doug (Tandra), grandson Jay, along with Chad and Mary and many nieces and nephews. Fritz is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents, siblings and Cody.
Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 3-6pm at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. Grave site services are Wednesday, Sept. 19, 11am at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. A celebration of life will be at the Reata from 4-7pm.
