WILLIAM HERBERT RIDDLE SEPT. 22, 1939 - DEC. 16, 2006 Bill was born in Milford, Michigan to William Herbert and Mary Magdalen Riddle. As a young man he moved to California. He worked various jobs until he worked as an operator for the City of Los Altos Sewage Treatment Plant. He worked his way up to shift supervisor for the City of Palo Alto Treatment Plant and finally to plant manager for the City of Ceres. In addition to his full time job, he trained and served as a Reserve Police Officer for the Cities of Los Altos and San Jose. He played league baseball and coached Little League Baseball. In Ceres he became a suburban rancher, joined the Lions Club and E Clampus Vitus and annually worked on the Ceres Halloween Festival and the Ceres Street Faire. He was nominated for Ceres Citizen of the Year. He and his wife, Heidi, hosted eight exchange students from Germany and Sweden. They built their retirement home in St. Ignatius, Montana where he served on the Mission Valley Old Town Development Board and the Chamber of Commerce, volunteered for the Area Council on Aging and was Executive Director for the Mission Valley Food Pantry. Bill enjoyed playing poker with members of SIRS. He loved fishing and travel. On his motorbike he traveled annually with friends from California. They toured Alaska and Canada and attended several rallies. He was happiest in the company of friends and family and finding ways to listen or help others.
His deepest devotion was to his family: his wife of 30 years, Heidi; three sons, William Shelby (deceased), Thomas Lloyd, and Robert Darren (Lena); and his three grandchildren, Timothy Robert Riddle, Brett Kamry and Taryn Evay Weber; and his relatives in Michigan and Missouri.
Bill's contributions and warm smile will be dearly missed.
Friends are invited to a celebration of his life at Alfonso's Mexican Grill, 2375 Lawrence, Ceres, on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 1 PM. A gathering in St. Ignatius will be Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 1 PM.
