SALLY SCIGLIANO Obituary
SALLY ANN SCIGLIANO
Sally Ann (Rakestraw) Scigliano passed away peacefully at her Bullhead City home on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. She was born September 18, 1932 to Mary and George Rakestraw in Pontiac, Mich.
On New Year's Eve, 1949, she met the love of her life, Alfred Scigliano and they were married November 11, 1950. They remained at each other's side for 66 years.
Sally was a devoted mother and the couple raised three sons. In the mid 1970's Al and Sally discovered the Mohave Valley. Sally loved the river, the casinos and called the surrounding hills "Her mountains." They moved full time to Bullhead City in 1982.
In her characteristically understated way, Sally worked "behind the scenes" to improve the community. She was instrumental in addressing sewage problems that plagued the Holiday Shores area. Her intervention in the sewer problem resulted in the regional wastewater treatment plant being built on Section 10, paving the way for conservation of what would become Rotary Park along the Colorado River.
Sally and her husband Al were prominent members of the Bullhead City Incorporation Committee and Sally was a great help to Al as he assumed his position on the first City Council in 1984. After leaving politics, Sally turned to retail sales of fine Western Art, owning Sally's Western Images of Las Vegas. Before expanding to a permanent location, Sally traveled throughout the Tri-State Area offering high-quality Native American porcelain dolls and art.
She demonstrated her love of Bullhead City by supporting local organizations and organized the first formal fundraiser for the Colorado River Museum.
Sally was a woman of great faith, integrity and humility. She often said that "Life is for the living" and those who knew her will never forget her laughter or her ability to have a good time. She enjoyed dancing, gambling and visiting with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her cherished Aunt Lucille; her half-sister, Patty; brother-in-law, Walter (Bud) Jolicouer; and last, but not least, her beloved dog Smokey.
Sally is survived by her husband, Alfred; three sons, Stephen Scigliano (Susan) of Bullhead City, Ariz., David Scigliano (Nancy) of Homer, Mich. and Bruce Scigliano (Connie) of Sheridan Wyo.; sister, Nancy Jolicoeur of Riverside, Calif.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; her brother-in-law and neighbor, Hubert (Patricia) Scigliano; and her good friend Lynn Stevens.
To honor Sally's wishes, a public service will not be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally's name can be sent to SAINT (Saving Animals In Need Together), P.O. Box 22411, Bullhead City AZ 86439.
The family wishes to thank the many nurses and doctors at WARMC as well as members of Living Waters Hospice, who gave wonderful and compassionate care to Sally.
