David Scheuerman Obituary
Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida. He will lie in state Friday, June 24, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Monroe, from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection. Father Philip Ching and Father Alan Zobler will co-celebrate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Ida.
Born May 5, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, David was the son of Harold and Viola "Alice" (Pruden) Scheuerman. He was a 1957 Summerfield High School graduate. He also received a bachelor's degree in journalism through Michigan State University and Adrian College. He married Joanne Nagel in 1972 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Monroe.
He worked 38 years for the Toledo Blade as a sports editor, retiring in 2000. He also worked for The Monroe Evening News as a sports reporter.
David was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. He also gave communion at St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo and to shut-ins in the community through Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. David loved following sports, especially Michigan State University and the Detroit Tigers.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; a son, Kevin (Jenna Conder); two daughters, Jennifer (Robert "Gordan") Alsbach and Karen (Matthew) Boose; two sisters, Mary Ann Scheuerman and Debbie Chalfa, and grandchildren, Branden, Blake, Caden, Owen, Elijah, Logan, Oliver and Madelyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Phillip; a sister, Marla Schultz, and a stillborn son, Chris.
Memorial contributions for Mr. Scheuerman can be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
