Linda Marie Mann

April 10, 1949 ~ September 5, 2012

SACRAMENTO, CA - Linda Marie (Chovan) Mann died peacefully on September 5, 2012, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with breast cancer which began in December 2009.

She was born on April 10, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio. Linda was an educator for more than 30 years, beginning her teaching career in Germany in 1971 and later working as a school counselor at the junior high, high school and college levels in Idaho, Wisconsin and California. She became a school administrator in 1995 and served as Principal at Pacific Grove High School; Director of Curriculum in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum in North Monterey County. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1971; a Masters Degree in Education in 1976, and her Doctorate of Education in 1999.

Linda was active in her church community of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Monterey, California, and later became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sacramento. Linda was the consummate hostess and loved entertaining family and friends for holidays and backyard barbeques. She enjoyed traveling and working in her garden. She was an animal lover, particularly her beloved golden retrievers. She was an avid reader and loved all music from sacred to blue grass.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Viola and John Chovan. Linda is survived by her sons, Brigham Mann (Tiffany) and Lucas Mann (Kerry); her brother, John Chovan (Lynda Sue); her sisters, Darlene Chovan-Anderson (Trent) and Kathleen Chovan (Robert Rubin) and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind an extended family of friends and relatives across the country that love and have been forever touched by her light, optimism, humor and grace.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:30am at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 52 Soledad Drive, Monterey, California. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the WeCare! Breast Cancer Peer Navigator Program, UC Davis Cancer Center: www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/

This candle represents Linda, a bright light who projected warmth. One cannot picture her without a smile, so the photo is perfect. That's how she's remembered: smiling, gracious, always pleasant.

Linda was a star in high school. That our salutatorian would earn advanced degrees is no surprise. A passionate learner, she. And her passion for learning no doubt contributed to her career choice of education.

Linda returned for the 40+ Reunion of Rogers Class of 1967 in 2008. How good it was to see her!

Now her passing brings shock and sorrow to her classmates.

Condolences to sons Brigham and Luke, siblings John, Darlene, and Kathy, and all other family members. Your keeping Linda's guest book online permanently is a wonderful tribute to her.

It was a privilege and pleasure to know Linda. May you who loved her best and longest find comfort in your faith, and in the expressions of sympathy from those who held Linda in such high esteem. She is, and will continue to be, missed.

I was saddened to learn of Linda's death. Two years ago she wrote at Christmas to tell me of her bout with breast cancer. I wrote to her last Christmas but the letter was returned. I felt a kinship with her because she and I were the same age. Her mother with whom I was very close frequently mentioned her to me and kept me abreast of her accomplishments and the whereabouts of her children. Please know that my thoughts are with your family. I trust that wonderful memories of your times together will bring you comfort. Lois Mitten Rosenberry, Toledo
