Martha Annetta Craig Obituary

Martha Annetta Craig
January 27, 1919 ~ July 23, 2007
PACIFIC GROVE – Martha Annetta Craig, age 88, beloved mother and grandmother passed away on Monday, July 23, 2007. She was born on January 27, 1919 in Ashton, Illinois to Fred and Rea Mall. Martha graduated in 1940 from University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science, and then initiated a career in teaching home economics and English.
Martha touched everyone near her with her enthusiasm for life. She was an inspiration for many who "wanted to be like her at her age." She started running as a hobby at age 70, and participated in the Big Sur 5 K run every year until age 86, usually winning in her age group.
Volunteering consumed much of her time and included the Corralitos Women's Club (three term president); The Breast Care Center of the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, as well as the Monarch Grove Sanctuary, part of the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. Her love of community drew her to serve on every committee at Canterbury Woods. Martha will be greatly missed by friends, family and everyone whose life she touched.
Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, William J. Craig and her sister, Winifred Robertson. She is survived by her sons, John and Tracy Craig; her daughter, Rhea Wong; as well as her grandchildren, Lauren, Jacqueline and Jason; and her great grandchildren, Alexander and Maggie.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Canterbury Woods, 651 Sinex Avenue, Pacific Grove, California, Friday, August 10, 2007 at 3pm. Phone: 831-373-3111.
Remembrances may be made to: The Breast Care Center, 1035 Cass Street, Monterey, CA 93940.
