Patricia Coble Obituary

PATRICIA KELLY COBLE
February 19, 1944 - May 4, 2021
Seaside
Patricia Kelly Coble lost her year and a half battle with metastasized cancers on May 4, 2021. Like her parents George and Catherine (Kay) Kelly, both deceased, she was a teacher for over 25 years. In 1988 she left her position in Alturas, Modoc County, to accept a position at Gambetta Middle School in Castroville, in the North Monterey County School District. There she met and became friends with a number of staff members, students and parents. She became very good friends with Bob Coble at Gambetta and they married in June 1990. They discovered that Bob's brother-in-law Hugh (Mickey) Duckworth and her brother Phil Kelly (both now deceased) had served on the Richmond, CA police force together. Pat & Bob lived in Salinas for several years until they brought a house in Seaside. Both of them were volunteers at the Western Stage in Salinas and then Pacific Repertory Theatre in Carmel, and Pat had roles in a couple of Western Stage musicals. They volunteered at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for a number of years until COVID caused the aquarium's closure. Quilting, knitting, and sewing were some of her favorite activities, along with reading, socializing, and traveling. She was a member of several different quilting organizations and knitting groups. Pat and Bob traveled a lot, especially to Ireland where both had ancestors. They went to the Arctic Circle in AK twice on Northern Lights viewing expeditions, and to Hawaii and Guam. Because Bob had a daughter whose husband was with the U.S. State Department, being deployed all over, Pat and Bob found them to be fantastic and gracious hosts and visited them in Costa Rica, Cuba, Russia and Vienna. They also visited Bob's daughter Sabrina (John) in Issaquah, WA and Maryland when John was a computer program consultant there and in San Diego when John and Sabrina settled there. They went on several ocean cruises but preferred Viking Riverboat cruises in Europe, traveling to many places they had never thought they would see. They were scheduled for another trip to Ireland and Scotland with the Irish entertainer Seamus Kennedy in 2020 until the Pandemic.
In February 2020 Pat was diagnosed with multiple cancers that were too far advanced to be stopped, but Pat continued with her sewing, reading, quilting, and knitting activities until a stroke a year ago put her into CHOMP for 17 days, ending her driving capability. She was still able to go out with Bob to eat at favorite places and often ride along the Pacific Grove waterfront. She was making plans for future travel on U.S. rivers until she collapsed again in late April and was back in CHOMP for five days. This time multiple tests revealed inoperable internal issues that led to her needing palliative hospice care. She insisted on dying at home, so was sent back to her home with support from the Hospice of the Central Coast where she held on for nine more days until her spirit finally gave up on May 4th.
Pat is survived by her husband Bob. They would have been celebrating their 31st wedding anniversary this coming June 16th. She is further survived by her son Derek Williams and grandson Dylan, who was also a volunteer at the aquarium and a recipient of an aquarium scholarship. He graduates from the University of California in Berkeley next May. Pat is also survived by Bob's children Lycia Coble Sibilla (Chris), in Manila, Philippines, Sabrina Coble (John), San Diego, Michael Coble, Belgrade, Montana, and grandchildren Nicholas and Max Sibilla and Chelsea and Chad Coble, and Sharon Kelly of Rescue, CA and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family is planning to host a Celebration of Life for Pat, but not until it is safe for people, which means it will most likely be held later this year, or even next year. There will be a further announcement at that time. As per her wishes, Pat has been cremated, and later her ashes will be dispersed at a special place she requested. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

I remember Pat as a friend, a coworker in the same district, and as a sharer of the same birthday.

I remember being with Pat, Bob, and Mary Lou in Pittsburg, PA at an AFT convention supporting Clinton and Gore! What beautiful memories.

Cousins are from the same shoot of the same family tree. Cousins are forever friends bound together by the closeness of certain family groups, such as your mother and my mother being sisters. You and I often visited with each other at family holidays and gatherings. We were in touch, and you were helpful with advice when we were both at Humboldt State College in Arcata, California. In those days you always wanted to be called Patricia, never "Pat".

Patricia, this is not goodbye. Where ever you'll be, you'll be in my remembrances and in my heart.

Love, Barry Dreher

Pat and I both taught at Gambetta, but I truly saw her expertise when she moved to Echo Valley Elementary. She was our bilingual resource teacher. We teamed up to create a learning plan for a difficult student. It was the first time a specialist truly taught and supported a student with measurable outcome and he had a blast! He was so proud at year's end! Teaching with Pat was easy. As a veteran, she had really great ideas, but still listened and incorporated other ideas, as well. I miss her laugh. Great "hahaha!". Sorry for your loss Bob. Really sorry... Ed and Lynn Costello

Pat was my friend for nearly 50 years. Losing her is like losing a sister. I'm so glad she had Bob and the entire Coble family in her life.

Pat was fun, funny, warm and had an iron will. She was such a blessing in our lives. She shared her love of sewing, knitting, Ireland and baseball with us. Always heading out to a ballgame in her Giant's gear some of which she made for herself and Dad. It was a treat whenever she and Dad visited. We cherish our memories of her. Sending our loved to you Dad.

Pat was a beautiful and kind lady. She and I were blessed to share the same birthday and would send each other “happy birthday “ messages. I shall miss my friend.
