Pe Wang Obituary

Pe Sheng (P.S.) Wang

~ 2012 ~

PACIFIC GROVE - Pe Sheng (P.S.) Wang, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and Professor Emeritus of San Jose State University, passed away at his home in Southern California on July 9, 2012 at the age of 92, after a difficult illness.

P.S. is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Helen, his full-time caregiver during his illness of eight months. He is also survived by stepsister, Lily of Taichung, Taiwan; daughter, Caroline Roberts (Stephen) of Sacramento; stepdaughter, Janet Rakowitz (Scott) and their daughter, Chloe of Pleasanton; stepson, Rick Chang (Jessica), and their soon-to-be-born son, of San Francisco. He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, and first wife, Mary (Wei Chun).

P.S. was born in Tianjin, China. He completed his B.S. in economics in China, and a master's degree at Chengchi University (Chongqing). After coming to the U.S., he earned his master's degree in economics from the University of Colorado. In 1952, he went to work at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, where he met his first wife, Mary.

P.S. returned to graduate school and earned his Ph.D. in business at the University of Washington. In 1962, he joined the faculty at San Jose State University, and served as a Fulbright scholar in Taiwan in 1965. Mary passed away in Pacific Grove in 1987.

He married Helen in 1989, later moving from Pacific Grove to Southern California. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing mahjongg, and traveling throughout the world. In 2006, P.S. and Helen were honored in Tianjin, China, for their major contribution to P.S.'s high school and donation of a collection of artwork (personal gifts from the artist) by renowned artist, Zhang Daqian, to the Tianjin Art Museum.

As a young adult in China and the U.S., he encountered and overcame many hardships and racial discrimination. Throughout his life, he made many sacrifices for the benefit of his family.

At his request, no services will be held. The family thanks the many friends, caregivers, and hospice professionals who supported and prayed for them during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, a public library, or the Pacific Grove Library (P.O. Box EH, Pacific Grove, CA 93950).
