Robert Brodsley Obituary
Robert Brodsley, 73, passed away unexpectedly on May 28,
2005. Robert was born to Dora and Samuel Brodsley in Bayonne, NJ on
August 13, 1931.
Robert started his journey of life joining the Navy in 1950, serving
on the battleship BB64 uss Wisconsin, which was hit by enemy shore
batteries off the coast of North Korea on March 15, 1952 and also the
heavy cruiser Newport News ca - 148 in both the 6th and 7th fleets.
Robert's medals of honor include Rep. of Korean War Service Medal,
Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star and Battle Stars, Korean
Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, United Nations
Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service
Medal with European and Asian Clasps and Good Conduct Medal 1953. He
was honorably discharged August 9, 1954.
Robert was a member of the Naval Institute, Life Member of
U.S./Korea 2000 Foundation Inc., U.S. Naval Cruiser Sailors
Association, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 6849), and
the uss Wisconsin Association. He was also a founding member of the
Sons of Norway on the Monterey Peninsula, acting at one time as vice
president.
Robert married his late wife, Tove Brodsley, and started a life in
Carmel, ca. Eventually he moved to Toro Park Estates, where he raised
his family which included two children. He retired from a federal
finance position at the Presidio of Monterey at age 55 and eventually
resided in Las Palmas Ranch.
Robert was a wonderful husband and devoted father who truly loved
his grandchildren and was always there to offer great advice and
guidance. He always turned out to be right. He enjoyed sitting around
at dinner and sharing with the family stories of the past and the
present. He was a genuine, kind-hearted, loving person to all who were
in his life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of over 25 years, Tove, and
is survived by his son, Erik Brodsley (Jill) and his children, Madison
and Jacob, all of Salinas; his daughter, Inger Brodsley of Kalispell,
Montana; Jonjean Spellacy, his companion of 16 years; nieces, Marianne
and Vibeke of Norway; his brother, William Brodsley (Terry) and nephew,
Adam.
Private services with Naval Honors were held for the immediate
family. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in his name to
the Salvation Army.
