Marina
Eileen was born & raised in Richeyville, PA and moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1945.
In the late 1950's she met the love of her life, Frank Christie, an ensign attending the Naval Post Graduate School.
Their naval career took them to Morocco, Georgia, Rhode Island, Coronado and Camarillo, California.
In 1993 they moved back to their beloved Monterey.
The joys of her life were her family, her church, her garden, going to yard sales & rooting for the San Diego Chargers.
She is survived by husband Frank, sons John (Betty) of San Diego and Frank (Lisa Baron) of Monterey, daughters Georgia (Monty) of TX and Kacey (Carl) of Coronado, and former daughter-in-law Michele of NJ, Nieces Sue (Ron) Garrett of Monterey, Lorna Lee, Lisa & Darlene (Carl) of OH, nephews John of OH & Alan (Shelia) of AZ, Grandchildren Tara Renee, Lori Ann (Gary), Jake Christie of Pacific Grove, Bill, Mary (Tony) & Lindsay, Granddaughter in-law Megan, Great-grandchildren Stevie, DeAndre, Breanna, Nathan, Hunter, Haley, Landry & Vivian, Great nieces Susan & Cindy Garrett of Marina, Jessica & Jasmine Garrett of Monterey, Jamie & Kaitlyn, Shelia (Ken), Bonnie (Michael), Denise (Randy), Great nephew Neil (Catherine), Great-great nephews Benn, Ray Ray and great-great niece Savanna.
Preceded in death by brother Ed (Hazel) Cole, sisters Marian (John) Kandar and Catherine (John) Reymann of Monterey, Grandsons John Christie Jr., Dylan Baron-Reynolds, niece Patricia Kandar, nephews Gary & Jeff Reymann and great nephew Ryan Fitzgerald.
Eileen's volunteer spirit was ignited early in life when she began selling War Bonds in High School. This love of service continued for more than 70 years. She volunteered tirelessly for the Navy Relief Society, multiple youth soccer and baseball organizations, The Boy & Girls Club, Ventura Co. Child Abuse Council, Child Help USA, So. Calif. Motion Picture Council, Permanent Charites Committee, Jr. Seau Foundation and the Ft. Ord Thrift Shop.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her church, Marina Methodist on April 25, 2015 @ 2:00 pm.

On the day that Eileen started high school in 1940 she was immediately popular as both her sisters & brother that preceded her were model students and her brother Ed, was a captain of the football team. However by the end of her freshman year, the principal said that she was the WORST FRESHMAN EVER! Now how could someone with such a pedigree & popularity become the Worst Freshman ever? Well it is important to note that Eileen was never caught doing anything wrong & that she was never suspended. It was just an unfortunate coincidence that when a large portion of the football team all ditched class on the same day and when the Principal reviewed the excuse notes - that all of their parents had very similar handwriting to Eileen's lovely penmanship. It was just another unfortunate circumstance that when a teacher who had recently chastised Eileen in front of class ended up with a snake in his desk drawer. Or, when someone slipped a chicken foot's into a student's blazer during a school dance, it was purely circumstantial that Eileen worked at a butcher shop. After all back then, many people raised chickens in their yard. You didn't need to work at butcher shop to have access to a chicken's foot.

The youngest of four with two sisters and a brother and as a young child Eileen enjoyed the company of her brother and was a true tomboy that preferred spending time out in the woods catching frogs or snakes rather than cooking & sewing with her sisters. Her favorite person growing up was her maternal Irish grandmother Mary and in her honor she chose to go by her middle name Eileen instead of her English first name Vivian. Her grandmother took her to the movies every day where they were given a piece of Ultramarine Swirl by Jeannette Depression glass. This became was their good dishes and growing up it was our good dishes as well.

Everyone knows that Mom was a Die-Hard Chargers Fan. What you may not know is that Mom's love for NFL football came to her late in life at age 65. The significance of the Grams #70 on her football card is that was a shirt she wore to the Chargers Game on her 70th birthday and after the game many of the players & their wives signed the shirt.
