Daniel Ross Obituary

ROSS, Daniel Earl

49, a longtime resident of Montgomery, died June 30, 2017 in the waters of Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lanny Dale Ross and Geraldyne Hutchinson Ross. He is survived by his brother, Michael Dale Ross and his wife Hilary Howard Ross; nephews Hunter Duncan Ross and Charles Owen Ross; a niece, Margaret Addison Ross. Daniel was born in Selma, Alabama on September 24, 1967. He graduated from Montgomery Catholic High School and attended Troy State University. As a young man, he excelled at many sports, including basketball, baseball, and golf. Using his love of golf, he began his career as a golf professional at the former Rolling Hills Country Club. However, his two favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing, which was a passion he shared with his father as such an avid hunter and fisherman whose skills with the gun and rod were paralleled by none other than his old man. "Danny" was a car salesman extraordinaire at A & P Automotive. He was loved by many, and known for his infectious personality, positive attitude, selfless willingness to serve others, and engaging smile. A celebration of his life will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2017. Visitation will be held prior from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A private burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. For online condolences, please visit www.alabamaheritagefh.

I didn't know Danny, but wanted you to know that he had a profound impact on my 14 year old son and for that I am forever thankful. We were at Gulf Shores the day Danny passed away, my son was on our balcony and watched as the rescue personnel tried valiantly to save Danny. We were on vacation that week and my son had been the insolent teenager who "knows everything" and would get upset that we wouldn't let him go too far out in the water. In the typical teenage boy mode, he was invincible and mom and dad are stupid. However, after watching the revival efforts, he decided that the ocean was a place to be respected, he didn't want to go back in. He said, "mom, if the ocean can hurt him a strong grown man, it can hurt me, I'm just a kid". I am so sorry for your loss but wanted you to know that he had a huge impact on my child and hopefully my son will be more cautious. May God bless the family and friends.

I met Danny many many years ago. He really was someone who could keep you laughing. I'm not sure I ever saw him not smiling. My heart truly goes out to the family. I hope that you can find comfort knowing that God can help us through these terrible times (1 Cor 1:3,4).

July 4, 2017

I met Danny about 40 years ago when he was a skinny little kid that could hit a golf ball a mile. I moved away from Montgomery in 1985, and life circumstances brought me back about 4 years ago to be re-united with an acquaintance of long ago, Nell Green. The skinny kid had filled out a bit, but his robust appreciation for life was still intact !!!! Nell and I certainly enjoyed Danny's infectious spirit. We know he is at peace with his beloved mother. Godspeed Danny. With all our love, Gene Treadway and Nell Green.

GOD SPEED BROTHER. I will alawys charish the story of us almost getting into a brawl on a pitch dark night in Montgomery. Our cars were very similar and I was getting in my car , but you thought I was getting in yours! You were wanting to beat my butt and I was going to beat your butt until we got closer to confront each other and then we both realized who each other were...Then we laughed and laughed and hugged and hugged . Brother we've talked about that story for years and years! .I wish I can give you a hug and laugh one more time. That day will come again in heaven, in the meantime you keep all of them entertained. MISS and love you always!

I first met Danny at victoryland in Montgomery. He was a hoot. Always smiling from ear-to-ear and loved his job Milton was crazy about Danny so was everyone else I remember we get off our shift at 11 p.m. and sit and play the slot sometimes till 6 in the morning. I've never had so much fun and he was a large part of that. I also bought my first little Miata from Danny he knew I was looking and came across one by accident it was one of the best little cars I've ever had. Unfortunately he help me sell it when I had to upgrade to a larger convertible. I remember last year when he came down to Gulf Shores he couldn't have enough fun he was having a blast. Even though I never had much time to spend around him after I moved to Gulf Shores in 2010 I would see him on Facebook always smiling...selling a car, hunting or fishing. The world was a better place with him in it. prayers to family and friends. We will never forget Danny... He was always a shining light in our heart and our lives. RIP my friend ❤

Danny has been a long time friend of my family for 30 or so years. I first met him when he was an insurance agent for my Uncle Rex Akins. He was always the same every time I saw him, in a great mood and positive minded. He made me and others around him better just by being around him. I will always remember him draining a 50 ft putt when he needed it, walking behind the putt saying 'That's ya daddy!'. Can't believe this has happened, he will surely be missed. God Bless you and your family. See you one day in heaven.

We met Danny when we bought my husbands truck from him. He had a contagious smile and bubbly personality. We felt like we had known him for years. And in talking found out we had a lot of mutual friends .. and so we prob did cross paths in the past. I loved seeing his funny jokes and post on FB with his friends. He always made you smile. If you walked away from him without a smile on your face that was your fault. He loved his family and friends and spoke highly of them. My heart goes out to everyone he touched. Keep smiling Danny ... you'll be missed
