MANGRUM, Sr., Lt. DarylLee, (USAF, MSgt., Ret'd),53, a native of North Carolina and longtime resident ofPrattville, AL, died peacefullyon Sunday, July 20, 2008, atthe University of AlabamaMedical Center in Birmingham, AL, following a courageous battle with cancer.Funeral services will be heldon Thursday, July 24, 2008, at2:00 p.m., from the First BaptistChurch of Prattville, with Dr.Travis Coleman and Reverend Larry Burke officiating.Burial will follow in PrattvilleMemory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. In appreciation for hisservice to his country, TheMaxwell Air Force Base HonorGuard will render full militaryhonors and will act as pallbearers. In appreciation forhis service to his community,the Prattville Police Department will render full law enforcement honors, and willact as pallbearers at thechurch. Following his militarycareer with the United StatesAir Force, which spannedtwenty-three years, Lt. Mangrum served the Communityof Prattville for thirteen yearsas a dedicated law enforcement officer in good standing. He also demonstratedhis avid love for our youth bydeveloping and implementing the School/CommunityRelations Division of the Prattville Police Department ofwhich he was the SupervisingLieutenant. He was precededin death by one brother, Reggie Mangrum. The memoriesof his life and love will becherished forever by his beloved wife, Sheila Mangrum,Prattville, AL; one son, DarylMangrum, Jr., St. Petersburg,FL; two daughters, Joy Lee(Chuck) Knighton, Millbrook,AL and Misty Mangrum, Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren, Brianna, Ashlyn, Christian, Daryl, Sierra, and Schyler; his parents, Reginal andDurene Mangrum, McLeansville, NC; two sisters, CherylSmith and Annette (Danny)Solomon, all of Burlington,NC; one brother-in-law andsister-in-law, Kenneth andSandra Gregory, Greensboro,NC; one sister-in-law andbrother-in-law, Tina and MarkLunsford; NC; and a host ofother relatives, co-workers,and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members ofthe Prattville High School Jr.R.O.T.C. Special appreciationis extended to the Staff of Horizon Hospice, especiallyNurses Twanda and Melanie;the Montgomery CancerCenter, and the PalliativeCare and Comfort Center ofUAB Medical Center for theirextraordinary care and genuine compassion.
