David Kirkland Obituary

David Sanford Kirkland, 61, of Montgomery, Alabama, died at his home on March 21, 2013, following a brief illness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joan Perdue Kirkland, his daughters, Gwyn Kirkland Harris (Heath) of Prattville and Elise Kirkland Taylor (Jeremy) of Bessemer, and his grandchildren, Adalyn Ruth Harris and Micah Sellers Taylor. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kirkland, Jr. (Annie Sanders) and a brother Fred Michael Kirkland.

David was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School and attended John Patterson Vocational School. He received an associate degree from Troy University Montgomery. He served in the Alabama National Guard and the Army Reserve. David was employed by Durr Drug Company and Amerisource Bergen for more than 30 years. David had a strong faith in God and strived to live that faith in all aspects of his life. He was a soft-spoken, compassionate gentleman, loved and highly regarded by all who knew him. I've known David since high school. We graduated the same year. I remember seeing him in his R.O.T.C. uniform. I always thought it was so sweet that David and Joan were high school sweethearts and have been a great example of a successful married family. I always thought of David as a gentle, caring Christian man. I also went to church with David and Joan. They loved their children and grandchildren. David will be missed. May you find comfort in knowing others care and that David was a godly man. Most Sincerely in Him, Ann Pascal (Vaughn Park family)
