MATTOX, N TUCKER

MATTOX, N Tucker, 80, of Montgomery, Alabama died after an extended illness on October 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Craig Mattox and Margaret Tucker Mattox; his daughter, Virginia Leigh Mattox, and by his brother, Horace Craig Mattox, Jr. (Buck).

He is survived by his wife, Jean Bryan Mattox; son, Dr. N Tucker (Susie) Mattox, and grandchildren, Christopher Mattox, Ty Mattox, and Carly Mattox.

A Memorial Service will be at First United Methodist Church of Montgomery on Friday, October 24th at 1:00PM. The family will receive friends one hour before in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

Born in Union Springs, Alabama, Tuck graduated from Union Springs High School in 1952 as Class President and recipient of numerous football honors including All State Selection. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Building Construction. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and several honoraries including Phi Kappa Phi.

After graduation and marriage to Jean Bryan, he served three years in the Air Force before beginning a long, distinguished career in construction. His career began with J.A. Jones of New Orleans and spanned years with Algernon Blair Construction, Blount Construction of Montgomery and ending with Harbert Construction of Birmingham (later Raytheon) as Vice President of Government Projects. He retired in 2001 to pursue traveling, leisure on Lake Martin, and following his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.

During his years in Montgomery, Tuck was active in The Lions Club, Blue Gray Colonels, Montgomery Country Club, and The First United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board and in the Oxford Sunday School Class.
