PHILIP WINTERS Obituary
WINTERS, Mr. Philip Mallo, age 81, of McWilliams, AL, died Sunday, December 15, 2002 at a local hos-pital. Mr. Winters was born Sep-tember 2, 1921 in McWilliams, AL. He graduated from Moore Acade-my in Pine Apple, AL in 1939. Mr. Winters then attended Howard Col-lege (now Samford University) star-ring as quarterback until drafted into the Army in 1941. Mr. Winters served as a first sergeant in a light artillery division in the Pacific theat-er during WWII where he earned a silver and bronze star. Mr. Winters returned home where he worked with his father in the family Excelsior Mill, J.A. Winters, Co., Inc., On De-cember 18, 1949 he married Betty Rives of Selma, AL. He became pre-sident of Winters Excelsior Compa-ny in 1953 and started Winters Pe-can Company in 1979. Mr. Winters was also an avid outdoorsman.He is preceded in death by his pa-rents, John Albert Winters and Eu-genia Mallo; a daughter, Elizabeth Rives Winters; six brothers, Johnny Winters, Francis Winters, Peter Wint-ers, Victor Winters, Jack Winters and Dan Winters; three sisters, Mabel McLean, Lucille Antoinette Winters and Theresa Louise Winters.He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Rives Winters, McWilliams, AL; four sons, Philip (Dale) Winters, Jr., Pine Apple, AL, Tom (Mitzi) Winters, Bir-mingham, AL, Vic Winters, McWil-liams, AL and Richard Winters, Mc Williams, AL; two daughters, Theresa (Rommy) Vistart, Mobile, AL and Eugenia (Chris) Stone, Pine Apple, AL; three brothers, Eugene Winters, Pensacola, FL, Samuel Winters, Bea-trice, AL and Paul Winters, Mexia, AL; three sisters, Agnes Costlow, Co-lumbus, OH, Margaret Madson, Jacksonville, FL and Anna Marie Yates, Carlowville, AL; nine grand-children, Philip Mallo Winters, III, Hunter Jones Winters, William Parker Winters, Ruth Spooner Vistart, Ashley Brook Winters, Thomas Adams Winters, Christopher Carter Stone, Jr., Jordan Winters Stone and Alvin Colby Stone.Visitation will be Tuesday, De-cember 17, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. un-til 7:00 p.m. at the McWilliams Me-thodist Church, McWilliams, AL. Graveside services will be Wednes-day, December 18, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. at the McWilliams Cemetery with Father Pat Madden officiating. Burial will follow in McWilliams Ce-metery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the McWilliams Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 102, McWilliams, AL, 36753.
