George Stroupe Obituary

George "Ben" Stroupe

May 4, 1929 - March 24, 2025

George "Ben" Stroupe, 95, of Morganton, NC joined his wife of 72 years, Sue, and his son, Gary, in Glory on Monday, March 24, 2025. Born in Burke County on May 4, 1929 he was the son of the late Bonnie Portland Stroupe and Dora Ann Hildebrand Stroupe. Ben was a lifelong member of Mt Home Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ben was raised by his mother due to his father passing before his birth. He loved camping, which he had done for over 30 years. Ben enjoyed riding around on the golf cart and talking to everyone. Ben never met a stranger. He enjoyed playing putt-putt until evening when he danced the night away, then woke up to play putt-putt again. Ben loved traveling across the country with friends whether it was in an RV, cruising, or flying. He especially enjoyed visiting different casinos. Ben served for 2 year in the US Army. He later worked at the Carbon Plant before starting his own septic tank business in 1965. Even after "retiring" he continued to work by hauling gravel, trenching, and maintaining his apartments. Ben worked in construction with his brother, building several houses including his own. Throughout his life during his free time, Ben was an avid card player and enjoyed bowling in his early years, which he was even part of a bowling league at one point.

Ben is survived by his daughters, Linda Stroupe Fisher, Lisa Stroupe Greene (David); daughter-in-law, Susie Stroupe; grandchildren, Rebecca Garner (Chris), Kevin Stroupe (Michelle); Clayton Greene, Olivia Greene; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Anabel Garner, Jackson and Colt Stroupe; sister-in-law, Delores Stroupe.

In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Margaret "Sue" Stroupe; son, Gary Wayne Stroupe; brothers, B.P. Stroupe (Nell), Harvey Stroupe; sisters, Mildred Cooper (Clyde), Margaret McManus (Ben), Beulah "Bootsie" Carswell (Gilbert).

The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until 3pm, Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held in the church at 3pm with Tommy Sain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Home Baptist Church.

I am very sorry about the passing of Ben. Ben was a good friend of mine for many years. I enjoyed visiting with him when he would come to the apartments. Ben and his family have always been special to me. I pray that the Lord will comfort the family during these difficult times.

Precious Stroupe family, what memories will we all forever share especially of our camping years together. One of my favorites is getting together at your parents home at Christmas and eating those green Cornflake ivy treats (one tradition that I passed onto my own children and grandchildren).Your family has been through so many loses these past few months, I can't even imagine the pain. But I do know, that we have a God that they are now with and that we WILL be with them again. Cling to him in these tough days, and he will pull you through, those precious memories will forever be instilled in you. I thank God for your dad that I had the privilege of knowing him, and of course your mom. Sending you all much love as always, and lifting you all in my prayers. Connie Fox
