Robert Logan Obituary

Robert Logan MORGANTON Robert Lionel Logan passed away peacefully Thursday, June 27, 2013. He was married to his beloved wife, Essie Logan, for 39 years, who preceded him in death in 1998 and in many ways died of a broken heart. He was the son of the late Lionel and Maggie Lee Logan and is also preceded in death by his brother, Jim Logan. He is survived by his loving daughter, Kimberly Logan McGeady, of Severna Park, Md. and husband, Matt, their son, Logan and triplets, Matthew, Maggie, Emi; and also a proud son, Marion Christopher Logan, of Savannah, Ga. and wife, Kayre and their daughters, Sidney Wells and Ella. Bob was born in Morganton, graduated from Morganton High School and Western Carolina University and served in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime resident and active member of the Drexel community for many years. He retired from Great Lakes Carbon Corp. after 37 years but was better remembered for his involvement in the local community. He was an active member and deacon of both Drexel First Baptist and Morganton First Baptist Church, Scoutmaster, outdoorsman, volunteer fireman and log home builder. Bob enjoyed gardening, providing a wonderful home for his family and spending time with his six grandchildren. He also participated in mission trips to West Africa, Brazil, Ecuador, Haiti and Puerto Rico and was an anonymous financial supporter to many organizations, schools and individuals who were in need of assistance and a helping hand. He truly believed in helping others. It is with both sorrow and celebration that we move into another chapter of life without our father but we will always carry forward the memories of love, support, guidance, comfort and happiness. These memories and the lessons learned from our father have helped us to be become better individuals and better parents of which we hope we can pass along to others. We are so grateful and blessed that words will never be able to express how fortunate we are to have "Bob" as our father. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Agape Sunday School Class at Morganton First Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Morganton First Baptist.

I dont think I have ever met a more giving couple than Bob and Essie. I had the privilege of working and traveling with Bob during my early years at Great Lakes Carbon. Bob was truely loved by everyone he came in contact with and a true mentor to me. I know first hand that his heart was broken when Essie passed. When ever I was in town I was always a guest at their house. Bob was a great man and will be missed he is now together with the love of his life.

A great tribute paid to Bob, altho I didn't know him. I worked with Maggie Lee at Southern Bell and went to high school with Jimmy. Both very people. My sympathy to the family. Reba P Reece
