Daniel J. Shively

Daniel J. Shively, age 97, entered into rest Friday June 3, 2022. He was born on September 2, 1924 in Akron, Ohio and lived in Rocky River for 37 years. He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point New York in 1945, and served as a merchant marine officer during WWII as a first mate on tankers. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Guernsey County and also periodically sailed as a Merchant Marine officer. Daniel married Pamela Kurfess on July 31, 1954. Mr Shively worked for Gulf Oil in Philadelphia, PA and later Sohio/BP in Ohio in the planning and finance department, retiring in 1986. After retirement he built a vacation house in Guernsey County, Ohio on his original farm land. In 2019 he wrote his memoirs "Sailor on Horseback". He is survived by his wife of 67 years Pamela Shively (nee Kurfess), children Jennifer (Brian) Bocchicchio, Laurie (Daniel) Hubach, and Thomas (Margaret) Shively, grandchildren James (Agata), Eileen (Daniel), David, Brian, Jeff (Laura), John (Breanne), James (Rachel), Joseph, Margaret and Bradford, great-grandchildren Natalia, Henry, Liam, Luciana, Aidan, Genevieve, Jack, Annette, Johnny and Audrey, sister Josephine (Charles-dec'd) Primbs and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Josephine (nee Pellicer) Shively, and brothers Richard (Maravillas), Joseph, John, William (Joan), and Frank (Phaedra). The family will receive friends on Monday June 6, 2022 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the MISENCIK FUNERAL HOME, 36363 Detroit Rd. Avon. A 10:00 am Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Rd. (Please Meet at Church). Intement to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Jaycox Rd.
