David Mertz Obituary

VERMILION - David Charles Mertz, age 70, died July 3, 2014, in a freak drowning accident.
While sitting on a dock, drinking a margarita, overlooking the water, his dog, Brix, jumped up and knocked him into the depths of Houghton Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edith; and the dogs, Porno, Sparky and Pokey.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; mistress, Gloria Jean; sons, Craig and Derrick; and daughter-in-law, Christine.
On a more serious note, donations to the David Mertz History Scholarship can be made to Heidelberg University, 310 East Market Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
A private service will be held in Vermilion, Ohio.

The best brother-in-law in the whole wide world. More a brother than an in-law for sure. Loved so much for so many years a part of the Gimben family. He was taken from us all too soon, but we were so lucky to have had him in our lives.
