Floyd Blevins Obituary

BROWNHELM TOWNSHIP – Floyd "Buffy" Blevins, Jr., 69 years of age, and a resident of Brownhelm Township, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born November 27, 1945 in Garrison, Kentucky where he was raised. He moved to Ohio in 1965 where he entered the U. S. Army . He served in Vietnam in the 127th Battalion as a field Medic. On completion of his tour in Vietnam he returned to Amherst in 1968; from then on he made Amherst his home for over forty-seven years.
Floyd was employed at Amherst Lumber Co. as an office manager for over 22 years. Upon leaving this job Floyd found a new career as a superintendant for Commercial Contractors Inc retiring in 2013. However having the skills that he had he was always on call for that company.
Floyd enjoyed carpentry, crafting and remodeling everything from homes to antique autos. He was a master carpenter and craftsman having completed several heirloom furniture pieces for a annual family reunion as well as his own work on his homes. Floyd enjoyed his work on his 1958 Corvette as well as his recently acquired 1929 Model A. Having many interests Floyd felt most at home having fun with his family just talking and drinking a cold beer. He enjoyed NASCAR, playing cornhole with the grandkids, and watching westerns with his Beagle "Possum". He had a love for counrty music without end and his favorite artist was George Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years Sherry Marlene (Nee: Hamblin); his son Allen Emery of Taylorsville, Kentucky; his daughters Deborah Traugh (Jeff) of Canton, Kimberly Marshall (Tim) of Corinth, Kentucky and Rhonda Emery (Ted) of Amherst; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; his nephew Jeffrey Blevins of Lorain and lifelong friend Charlotte Martinez of Baytown, Texas. As well as his Beagle "Possum".
He was preceded in death by his brothers Norm, Thurman and Gene Blevins, his sisters Ora Cantrell, Ellie Payton, Lorraine Hickle and Zola Walker; and his parents Floyd and Lula Blevins (nee: Adkins). As well as his beloved dog, Poncho.
The family extends an invitation to celebrate Floyd's life with them by calling Sunday, August 9, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Butch Jones, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Birmingham Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Disable American Veterans; Attn: Gift Processing, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45202-0301.

I built many stores for Floyd and Commercial contractors. He was always my favourite most professional Superintendent.
Very funny man, he ran an efficient well organized job.
Commercial Contractors actually used him to build many of the most difficult stores.
I think of him often.
