Fred "David" Hickman

1954 - 2018

Fred "David" Hickman, age 63, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 15, 2018, in the care of family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a cherished son, brother, and uncle treasured by all the family and friends in his life.
David was born December 28, 1954, in Lorain, Ohio to Fred C. and Dolly D. Hickman. He was preceded in death by both parents.
He is survived by two sisters, Rebecca (Bruce) Stewart and Beth (Larry) Harrison. He is also survived by niece, Betsy Carpenter; nephews, Benjamin Stewart and Noah Harrison; and step-niece and nephew Rana Volak and Nicholas Harrison.
After graduation from Avon Lake High School in 1973, David joined the U.S. Navy in December and served at Norfolk Naval Base as a Navy photographer until December 1977. He then worked briefly at U.S. Steel before attending Lorain County Community College, where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences. In August 1981, he began working at Western Enterprises in Avon Lake first as a draftsman and eventually as the Network Administrator. His IT knowledge has been sorely missed.
David was a quiet man who would always quickly respond to a call for help from family, friends, and fellow employees. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with family celebrating life's events and enjoying those moments. His passing leaves an emptiness in the lives of all those blessed by his presence.
Visitation will be held at Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Rd., Avon Lake, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 18, and 10 to 11a.m. Monday. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Reverend George Gribben III, Pastor of Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, at Resthaven Memory Garden, 3700 Center Road, Avon, with Military Honors.
