Gladys Bukowski Obituary

VERMILION - Gladys M. Bukowski. (Nee) Cole 87 of Vermilion, passed away Thursday June 9, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospice Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
She was born and raised in Pennsylvania.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memory her husband 68 years Albert Bukowski of Vermilion; her brother Ray Cole of Avon Lake; nieces and nephews Lori Beam from Georgia, Don Beam of Sheffield Lake, Ray Gray of Vermilion, Tom Gray of Lorain, and Carol Zimmerman of Amherst. Also leaves her beloved poodle "Precious"
Having returned from 3 years tour of duty in Hawaii, June of 1943. Albert stopped off in Lorain, to visit Gladys, purposed to her, got married and had a short honeymoon. Albert was on his way to the European theater and spent the rest of the war there.
She was an Army wife of 24 years. She spent 3 years of occupation in Germany and 3 years in Japan. Albert spent 2 tours of duties in Korea. On his last tour in Korea, he retired from the Army, after 27 years. They moved to North Hollywood California, after moving from Maryland, to California, she worked for American Safety Co. as a supervisor building oxygen hoses for astronauts.
In 1982 they both retired and started R Ving visiting all 50 states. Gladys was an avid Bingo player. They settled in Vermilion, Ohio spending their winters (28 years) in Florida.
She was cremated in accordance with her wishes.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, (440) 277-8164.
