James Brown Obituary

James T. "Jim" Brown, age 74 and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain, after a two year illness.
Jim was born in Lorain April 18, 1943, where he was raised and graduated from Lorain High School. Jim served in the United States Army from 1961-1964. He made Amherst his home for the past 14 years. Jim was a City of Lorain firefighter and paramedic for over 20 years. After retiring, Jim was a real estate salesperson and managed apartment buildings. In his younger years, Jim loved to take his dad fishing to West Virginia. In later years he loved to cook. Most especially, throughout his life he had several pet dogs, his last being his beloved "Sassy".
Jim was a member of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain, and was a 32 degree mason with the Black River Lodge, Lorain and the Scottish Rite. His other memberships include Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451, Lorain, Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442, The Al Koran Shriner Temple, Cleveland, and American Legion Post 30, Lorain.
Survivors include his fiancée Carolyn M. Fike of Amherst, son James T. Brown of Madeira Beach, Florida, daughter and son-in-law Julie and Mark Podolski of Lyndhurst, and his grandson Sampson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra (2013), his parents Richard and Agnes (nee Burk) Brown, brothers Richard and Frank Brown, and sisters Irene Brown and Joyce Grizzel.
Family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Monday, at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst, will officiate the funeral service at 7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017. A reception at 1 p.m. will follow the burial at Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442, 1161 Milan Avenue, Amherst.

to jim brown's family .. i worked with jim on the last fire he went to ..he took the line in and i followed and this was where hegot hurt badly,the moose bldg.fire i've always had a special memory of this because jim told me " i got this jimmy" he saved my life that day and he was class act in the right ways...
