John V. Hackenberg

1939 - 2015

ROCKY RIVER – John V. Hackenberg 75 a life long Rocky River resident passed away peacefully in his sleep following a sudden illness at his retirement RV at the Berlin Heights Holiday Park. John was born, May 10, 1939 in Cleveland.
He was a 1957 graduate of Rocky River High School and shortly after graduation began what would be a 30 plus year career with the Ford Motor Company, Lorain. When he retired he was working on the repair line.
John was a member of the Vermilion Lions Club and the Moose Lodge. He and his wife Mary Ann were accomplished Square Dancers and together they had traveled and camped the 48 states, with their children and then in retirement the two of them together. The belong to two travel trailer clubs, first the Holiday Ramblers and second the Newmar Kountry Klub. John also had a great interest in trains and would often times take the camper to places where the family could take a train ride. Some travel was also done via Amtrak.
John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann (nee Gambazza); children Scott Hackenberg (Vickie), Cynthia Hackenberg and Thomas Hackenberg (Marsha Eaton )all of Vermilion and Kimberly Tibbits (James) in Florida and stepson Robert McCreery (Nicole) of Rocky River. He is also survived by grandchildren Scott Jr., Jennifer, Kenneth, Michael, Jacen and Bella and great grandson Jacob. He is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth V. and Mary (nee Brown) Hackenberg, stepdaughter Dawn McCreery and sister Elizabeth
A memorial service will be at the Busch Funeral Home 21369 Center Ridge Rd., Fairview Park, Friday, February 6 at 11:00am. Rev. Nancy Manner of Lakeshore United Methodist Church, Avon Lake will officiate. Cremation by Busch Crematory.
