Leland Richard Goss

1928 - 2017

Leland Richard Goss, 88, of Brighton, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born on December 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Donald and Willa Mae (nee Hoagland) Goss. Leland was a lifelong resident of the Brighton area and a 1947 graduate of Brighton High School.
Leland grew up on his family farm and worked as a farmer for many years but later became an electrician. He worked for several local utilities companies. In 1970 he and his wife started Energized Substation Service Inc. which they ran for 25 years. Leland was an avid sports fan and talented athlete. As a young man he played minor league baseball for the Chicago Cubs, and later transitioned into fast pitch softball where he was known as the king of the mound and ranked among the best pitchers in the state. The most important thing to Leland was his Christian faith and love of God. He was a member of the Perfecting of the Saints Tabernacle in Brighton. In his early years, Leland enjoyed singing in church and playing bass guitar.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 66 years Donna (nee Bailey) Goss; children Kathy Goss, of CA, Richard Leland Goss, of Ashland, Ronald R. Goss, of CA, and Debbie Goss Kimmich, of Wellington; 22 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Leland was preceded in death by daughters Sherryl Perkins in 2003, and Lori Goss in 1988, son Roger Goss in 1979, and his brothers Donald and Herbert Goss.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, June 19, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St., Wellington and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 11 a.m. Pastors Mike Goss and Robert Bonner will officiate.
