John Giles Obituary

John E. "Rocky" Giles, age 66, of Alma, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Masonic Pathways of Alma.
John was born May 9, 1946 in Alma the son of Claude E. and Lillian E. (Walick) Giles. He graduated from St. Louis High School the Class of 1966. He served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1971. After the war, he earned his degree from Northwood University in food service. He worked at Alma College in their food service department for many years. He was a member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church in Alma and the Masonic Lodge of Alma. John volunteered at the Masonic Pathways. He was an avid sports fan, watching Michigan State, the Tigers and Redwings.
He is survived by his sister, Vickie (Michael) Bethka of Alma; nieces, Dana Ann (Scott Carpenter) Bethka of Greenville, Callie Ann (Brian) Ehlman of Sheilds, great nieces and nephews, Lissa, James, Steven, Sarah, Michael and Nicholas and great great nephews Clark, Ryan and Jake.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Masonic Pathways Doig Chapel, Alma with Pastors Mary Delany and George Ayoub officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakgrove Cemetery, St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alma Masonic Lodge or St. Johns Epsicopal Church.
