Dan and his family were a nice surrogate family to me when I still lived in Pittsburg. I learned a lot from the family and from Dan. I am grateful for those times and often refer back to them in my memory.

I grew up across the street from Dan & Joan Hix in the 70's and he was always helping me with my "hot rod" cars, lending a hand, engine lift, parts or whatever he could. Bright, very funny and twisted sense of humor Dan had. He also paid my last semester tuition and books at PSU with no strings attached and said if I couldn't find a job when I graduated with my Automotive Engineering degree that I could come work at HIX Corporation who he and his brother Cliff founded in the early 60's. Well... 35 years later, I'm still working at HIX as the Engineering Manager there and LOVE my job. Dan gave me MANY rides in the various cars he had (Zoro was the best) and always tried to scare the heck out of me on the bypass (but it didn't work, I just loved him spinning the tires at 80 MPH when he'd say "hang on and watch this"). Hundreds of stories of Dan that I'll treasure forever. One heck of a man, father to his kids and husband to Joan. Didn't get to see Dan in his later years, but will miss him for sure and in debt to him for giving me the job I love. RIP Dan Hix.

Dan was an amazing person in so many ways - sharp, witty, creative, fun to be around, and had a great sense of humor, and knew how to get things done. I was lucky enough to work with him and Bryan, Jean, Dana and Joan In Lawrence for a bit, and enjoyed my time with them. My condolences to the whole family.
