John Jarboe Obituary

John "Jack" Jarboe, 83, of Arma, Kansas died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Jarboe was born November 21, 1933 at Walnut, Kansas the son of Henry and Rose VanLeeuwen Jarboe. Jack was a retired farmer and also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation where he retired in 1998. He was raised in Walnut, attended Maple Grove (Possum Trot) and Walnut Grade School, and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Walnut. He moved to Grove, Oklahoma in 2002 and then to Arma in 2010. His hobbies were fishing, watching TV - especially wrestling- and riding his golf cart. He married Louise Kennedy on June 4, 1960 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, Kansas. Mrs. Jarboe survives at the home. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957 in Alaska. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma, a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut, Knights of Columbus in which he was a 4th degree, and the Lon Helm Post #182 American Legion at Arma. Survivors include his wife, Louise of the home, four sons, Roger (Melissa) Jarboe of Walnut, Rick (Debra) Jarboe of Wichita, Terry (Jennifer) Jarboe of Olathe, and Kelly (Vicki) Jarboe of Walnut, two daughters, Rhonda (Tim) Viets of Girard and Carla (Greg) Light of Louisburg, two sisters, Rose Mary George of Garden City, Kansas and Marjorie Bennett of Stark, Kansas, 15 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Patti Nabb and Shirley Crager.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma, Kansas with Father Floyd McKinney as the celebrant. Burial will be at the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Walnut, Kansas. Rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church prior to the Mass. Lon Helm Post #182 American Legion will conduct graveside flag folding services. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.

Louise, I recall working for Jack in the early 1960's I think it was summer of 1961. I stayed with you guys on the farm and helped with haying, etc. I remember how patient Jack was with me in the learning process and have always appreciated that. He was a kind and generous man and my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. May God bless all of you as you deal with his loss.
