Alexxis Raquel McKerrow
Born: February 18, 2004
Died: June 9, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce Alexxis McKerrow passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 9, 2025, as a result of an automobile accident at the age of 21. Alexxis was a truly beautiful young lady, both inside and out, whose radiant spirit touched countless lives. Although her life was tragically short, her impact on those around her will live on.
Alexxis was born February 18, 2004, in Terre Haute, Indiana. After the loss of her biological mother, she and older brother Drayden were in very good hands with their great grandparents, Steve and Janice until her uncle Jeremy and aunt Adrianne finished college and became her parents. Alexxis and Drayden thrived in Adrianne's home town of Morris and quickly became a part of their church and community. A few years later, they gained another brother, Maverick, who completed the close-knit family of five. She loved her brothers fiercely.
Alexxis attended Morris District 54 and graduated with the class of 2022 from Morris Community High School. While in school, she was never afraid to stand up for what was right even from a very young age. Alexxis always exuded the character of someone much older than her chronological age.
She found a passion for nursing while attending GAVC and decided to follow in her aunt's footsteps. Alexxis continued her education at Joliet Junior College where she was pursuing a career in nursing, while being employed as a CNA at Morris Hospital. During COVID Alexxis stepped up to the challenge of helping those in the greatest of need. Her passion for helping and healing was evident and will always be remembered.
Surviving are her parents, Jeremy and Adrianne (Leschewski) McKerrow; two brothers, Drayden and Maverick; maternal grandparents, Mel and Carol Leschewski; paternal grandmother, Mary McKerrow; aunts and uncles, Jess (Keith) Lackner, Tyler Rice, Jarrad Rice, Amy (Ross) McGowan and Bob (Becki) Peacock; great aunt and uncle, Jeanette and Lonnie Mollet and great aunt, Barb Hauge; many cousins and some of her closest friends Alexis, Savannah, Miles, Zoriana and Ethan.
She was greeted in heaven by her biological mother, Karri McKerrow; grandparents, Merilee (Peterson) Diller, Kevin McKerrow, Stephanie (David) Jackson; great-grandparents, Steve and Janice Davis, Jody and Mel Leschewski, Sr., and Gerry Brown.
Alexxis was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she spent many years helping with Vacation Bible School guiding the younger generation in their faith. She was also a member of the YMCA in Morris and often helped her aunt and mom with activities put on by the Morris Woman's Club. Music was always a great passion for Alexxis and she loved nothing more than attending a concert and belting out the words in her purely angelic voice. She enjoyed immersing herself in nature through walks and travel and when she wasn't working at the hospital. Being in nature gave Alexxis a sense of peace and calmness. Her love of animals was on full display through her side gig of dog sitting. She loved traveling, attending movies, festivals and concerts, with a few of her favorite artists being Harry Styles and Stevie Nicks. If she wasn't traveling or attending concerts, Alexxis could be found loving and supporting her friends and family.
Most importantly, Alexxis loved to love, and she generously shared that love with anyone fortunate enough to know her. Her philosophy was that you better love like Jesus and love everyone, no matter their background, what they believe in or who they love. Her family asks that all who remember Alexxis honor her by sharing their love for one another and living life to the fullest, a testament to her beautiful smile and her deep appreciation for life, love, family, and friends that became family.
All friends and family are invited to gather on Thursday June 12, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W. Rt 6 (at Deerpath Drive) in Morris. A Memorial Service will conclude the evening, beginning at 7 p.m. with Rev. Phil Arnold officiating.
