A Private family burial will take place at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Caring for Dennis and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Pierz, MN.
Dennis was born on May 2, 1944, to the late Michel and Ernestine (Nagel) Meyer in Little Falls. He graduated from Fr. Pierz Memorial High School with the class of 1962.
Dennis began working at a very young age, you could usually find him fixing something in his dad's blacksmith shop or next door at Meyer's Meat Market. Dennis married the love of his life, Charlene Dubiel on June 5, 1965, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. The young couple made their home in St. Paul where Dennis was employed by Johnson Meat Company. After two years of city life, Dennis moved his family back to the Pierz area, where he continued using his meat-cutting talent for Thielen Meats. He enjoyed visiting and joking around with the customers. During this time, he had also been enlisted in the Army National Guard. Dennis was determined to expand on his military career, and opted to attend Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Over the years Dennis attended numerous military schools and received many honors of distinction, proving his dedication to our country. He was instrumental in organizing the Retirement Club for military personnel, which has grown to several hundred militaries of all branches of the service, which is held twice a year at Camp Ripley. Dennis worked for 30 years in the CSMS Department at Camp Ripley as a machinist and shop supervisor and spent 34 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Command Sergent Major.
Dennis will be remembered for his great sense of humor, strong faith, and dedication to his family. He enjoyed a serious (competitive) card game, spent many hours duck hunting in Minnesota and Nebraska, deer hunting with the guys at the cabin, as well as fishing on many different lakes. He enjoyed trap shooting and participated in various trap leagues for several years. He made several yearly trips to the National Trap Shooting Tournament in Indiana. He also had a love for woodworking and old-time dancing. He was a great dancer and spent many hours on the dance floor with his lovely bride. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish in Pierz, the Little Falls and Pierz American Legion, the Pinnacle Club, and past president of the Eastern Morrison County Sportsman Club.
Dennis' pride and joy were his wife, Charlene; his children, Todd and Michelle; grandkids and great-grandkids. He always told them how proud he was of them and to make sure they knew they were loved. He was THE BEST storyteller and there wasn't a thing Grampa couldn't fix or do to put a smile on their face. Dennis was truly a jack-of-all-trades, and to family, he was a master at many.
Dennis is lovingly remembered by his wife, Charlene; children, Michelle (Troy) Block of Pierz and Todd (Justina) Meyer of St. Joseph; his four loving grandchildren, Courtney (Cavlin) Brausen of Sartell, Nicole (Jeremy) Traut of Sartell, Breanna Block of Pierz, and Mitchell Meyer of St. Joseph; his five adoring great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ava, Cole Brausen, Harrison and Brea Traut; brothers, Allen (Cindy) Meyer, James Meyer; sister-in-law, Pat Meyer and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michel and Ernestine Meyer; sister, Erna Mae Wetzel; brother-in-law, George P. Wetzel, Sr.; and nephew, George P. Wetzel, Jr.
In memory of Dennis, the family is asking you to lend a helping hand to someone in need.
