David Warner Obituary

David Edward Warner of West Palm Beach, Florida, peacefully passed away of cancer, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the age of 72.

He was born in Galion, Ohio on November 9, 1948 to Herbert and Dorothy Warner. Dave was the oldest of four children: sister, Cindy (Ken) Boswell, brothers Randy (Cindi) Warner, and Cray (Kimberly) Warner. Dave graduated from Mt. Gilead High School, Mt Gilead, Ohio class of 1966. He married his high school sweetheart, Vicki Wilkinson on July 25, 1968.

Together they had 3 children: Lori (Rick) Custard, Luke Warner, and Matthew (Andrea) Warner. Dave was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Lindsey Remy, Joshua Remy, Ricky Custard, Leah Custard, Kellen Warner, and Elijah Warner. And doubly blessed with 2 great-grandsons: Landyn Remy and Jax Stoots. He loved each of them with such a deep and great love! Dave was always such a family man. A wonderful father and a super amazing grandpa and great grandpa. There was NOTHING he wouldn't do for his family! They were the light of his life, and he was theirs too.

Dave graduated from Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, Missouri in 1971. With much excitement he moved to Massachusetts to begin working with the New England Christian Evangelizing Mission, working to start new churches in the New England states. Eventually, he became minister of the Bedford Christian Church in Bedford, Massachusetts. As much as he loved working in New England for 17 years, after several mission trips he felt God calling him to work with Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in St. Louis du Nord, Haiti.

In 1989, Dave moved his family to Haiti. The mission had several schools, churches, a feeding program, orphanage, and a medical clinic. Those were years of political unrest, but amazing times and experiences in Dave's life as well as his family. Dave would often begin each day with "What is God going to do today?" Haiti has always held a very special place in his heart, and he loved the people and his work there. After five years on the field, he along with his family moved back to Ohio. Dave accepted a position as college campus minister with Active Christians Today (ACT) at Bowling Green State University. Missions was constantly on Dave's mind, and as a campus minister he enjoyed taking college students during the summers and school breaks on mission trips.

Dave always had such a passion for sharing Jesus, loving, and helping people of all walks of life. He will always be remembered for his crazy sense of humor. His wife Vicki would say the reason they stayed married for so long, was because he made her laugh all the time. He loved practical jokes, and playing card games, and just being funny! Many college students have fond memories and still laugh at the passion which he played Euchre! Dave was a big fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Most of all he dearly loved studying the Bible, counseling and discipling people while helping them understand the Bible better.

Dave was such an encouragement to many and would always challenge them to leave their comfort zone and stretch their faith. One of his favorite quotes that he lived by was, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot

A Celebration of Life honoring Dave will be held on September 11, 2021 at twelve o'clock in the afternoon at the Mount Gilead Church of Christ, 322 Iberia Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.
