Gladys Ilene (Bunker) Montgomery, age 76, of Marion passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the Marion General Hospital. Gladys was born on October 17, 1945, at Galion Hospital, in Crawford County, OH to the late Rolden and Clarice (Clark) Bunker. She was a native of Johnsville, OH, and a graduate of the last class of Johnsville High School in 1963. Gladys married the love of her life Larry Montgomery on July 11, 1981, at the Marion Christian Center.
Gladys worked as a teacher's aid for the Marion City Schools for over 30 years.
Gladys was a member of the Marion Christian Center church and was very involved within the church with her husband Larry. Gladys loved to crochet and sew. She also she loved gardening and was known to have a green thumb. She ran a tight ship at the home and was quick with the switch making sure her children stayed in line. Her grandchildren were her biggest joy in life and she made sure she watched them every Friday. Her favorite place to travel was Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee with her loving husband.
Gladys is survived by her Siblings; Mildred (Jim) Day, Nolan (Helena) Bunker, Keith (LaVerne) Bunker, Shirley Rhea, Maxine Bunker, children; Mark (Shellie) Montgomery, Darrin Thacker, Darrick Thacker, Tony (Tina) Montgomery, Darryl (Tammy) Thacker, Stephaine (Steve) Lafferty, Stacey (Kelby) Oakley, Darrla (Jason) Vaughn, Chad (Theresa) Montgomery, Grandchildren; Jonathan (Kelsey) Montgomery, Joshua (Kaitlyn) Montgomery, Jacob Montgomery, Joseph Montgomery, Mariah Thacker, Paige Montgomery, Kelsey Montgomery, Megan Montgomery, Logan Montgomery, Shyanne Thacker, Dalton Thacker, Owen Thacker, Maryn Thacker, Brandon (Amanda) Lafferty, Harley Hefner, Samantha (Nate) Culp, Audrey Newsome, Amber Newsome, Ian Newsome, Zack Oakley, Cheyenne Oakley, Peighton (Bailey) Colegrove, Nathaniel Vaughn, Sarah (Julian) Deleon, Melissa Montgomery, Great Grandchildren; Theodore Montgomery, Leah Montgomery, Wesley Brown, Gloria Rose Culp, Charlee Lafferty, Braxton Lafferty, Reagan Lafferty, Adain Stephens, Liam Steed, Landyn Steed, Colt Steed, Stellah Craig and best friends Bonnie and Nancy, noted but not forgotten are many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Gladys is preceded in death by siblings, Harold Clark, Kenneth Bunker, Cleo Kitch, Marvin Bunker, Lowell Bunker.
A memorial service for Gladys and her husband Larry, who unfortunately passed away on the same day will be held at the Marion Christian Center on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Perry Payne officiating. The burial will take place at the Agosta cemetery immediately following the memorial service. The Boyd Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family of Gladys and Larry in these especially hard times.
