LEXINGTON - Loretta Jean Baker passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023. She was 81.
She was born on July 17, 1942, to parents Ward and Margery (Bishop) Rogers in Mansfield, Ohio.
Jean attended and graduated from Johnsville High School with the class of 1960, where she was crowned homecoming queen the year prior.
On September 29, 1962, she married her high school sweetheart Roger Baker at St. John's Lutheran Church of North Woodbury. The couple shared 61 wonderful years of marriage and five children together. Shortly after their marriage Jean and Roger took on the monumental task of building their own home, which they did most of the work on with the help of family members. Jean spent most of her adult life there, make it more than just a house- she made it a cozy and comfy home for her loved ones.
Before her marriage to Roger, Jean worked at Stevens Manufacturing, wanting to be home raise their children she transitioned to being a homemaker. Once their children were grown though, Jean entered back into the workforce by working in the Lexington Schools cafeteria until her retirement in 2002.
A woman of faith Jean was a member former member of Williamsport United Methodist Church, and a current member of St. John's Lutheran in North Woodbury. She was very active in the church, enjoying teaching her Sunday School classes, and being a delegate to the General Conference at Lakeside, Ohio.
In spare time, she took pleasure in her flowers and gardens, caring for her pygmy goats, traveling, and winning the shuffleboard tournament during their family vacation to Lakeside, Ohio. But above all, Jean cherished her grandchildren. She dearly loved each one, her family was her proudest achievement in this life.
She is survived by her loving husband Roger, children Ronald Baker, Cathy Jo Baker, Julie Baker-Nuzum, and Jeffrey Baker, grandchildren Hannah Baker, Allison Baker, Grace Baker, Caleb Baker, Andrew Baker, and Easton Nuzum, siblings Jo Ann Walters, Bob Rogers, and Roy Rogers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Christine Baker, siblings Judy Tharp and Jim Rogers.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Bennington Glen Nursing Home and to Capitol City Hospice for their excellent care of Jean for the last 8 years.
The Baker family will receive friends on October 4, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Lexington Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring Jeans's life will begin immediately at 11 a.m. Celebrant Dave Roberts will speak. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
