Pauline and Howard met when Pauline was a freshman at Ohio State in 1951, and they were married in August of 1955. They moved to San Antonio where Howard served in the US Army Medical Corps.
Pauline returned to Mt. Gilead with Howard to help run the family business, Whiston Pharmacy, and to raise their two children. She later helped her husband establish D. Anne's Hallmark store providing the local community with gifts and greeting cards for all occasions.
