Nicholas Valvano Obituary

NICHOLAS Valvano Sr. CANANDAIGUA - Nick Valvano, 92, passed away on Feb. 25, 2017, at M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center. Nick was born in Canandaigua on Nov. 22, 1924, to Michael and Saveria (Cardone) Valvano. He served with the U.S. Navy and was a longtime member of the Canandaigua Elks Lodge. An avid Yankees fan, Nick was hardworking, very sweet and very dedicated to his family and church. After his retirement from Kodak, he volunteered at Gleaners Kitchen for over 20 years. Nick is survived by his children, Nicholas (Sue) Valvano of Canandaigua and Debbie Valvano of Farmington; grandchildren, Michael and Christy; brother, Vince (Dee) Valvano; sister, Mary Clement; and sisters in-law, Tina Catalfamo, Anne Catalfamo, Oretta Valvano. He was predeceased by his wife, Domenica "Mamie" Valvano;and brothers, Tony, Dan, Frank and Joe. Friends may call tomorrow (Wednesday, March 1) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home Inc., 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua. A 2 p.m. funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 2, at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict's Parrish, 95 N. Main St.m Canandaigua, NY 14424; M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY 14424; or Gleaners Community Kitchen, 183 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. I am so sorry to learn of your loss of Nick. He had a very great heart for his family and friends. Many people will miss seeing him at mass. Nick was a truly good man.

To you all, I was at Gleaners with Nick for perhaps 12 of those years. He was "Chief Salad Maker". I'd wave to him on summer days, driving up Pearl St. He was a very favorite friend of mine because of his sense of humor & kindness! The 9AM Mass crowd has missed him already.

I used to work at Crickets with Mamie and will always remember Nick and Mamie together. They are together again. Nick was just the nicest guy and I will always remember him fondly. My condolences to Nick and Debbie.
